New Sewing Room Furniture!

After having to go and return some parts because they were damaged, we finally got the new furniture for my sewing room assembled.

Bookshelves!

These ones are going to double as a bench--I will need to get a nice piece of foam and make a cushion for my new window seat!

These wire baskets are going to hold my fabric collection! I hope.

It looks a bit empty at the moment, but once my stuff comes from my place, I'm sure it won't!

I'm hoping to get back to sewing soon--I managed to chip bones on two of my fingers so have been out of commission, but I'm out of the splint and ready to see how it goes!

Monday Paint Report

Also out this weekend: 2 1/2 gallons of interior latex paint. Here is my future craft room, all taped up for the first color:

And here it is with "Glazed Pears" on the upper walls, and taped up for the next color...

... and with "Mexican Moonlight" on the bottom walls!

... and after drop cloth and painting supply cleanup!

We chose to paint the small wall with the closet door in it the darker color, and it really makes the door pop in a fun way!

I'm pleased with my paint choices! Next up--a trip to IKEA for some fabric storage solutions!

Sunday Stash Report

I took my first quilt class this weekend, so I used up a bit of fabric! I'll post more details soon, but here's what I've created so far for my first thread painted landscape:

Those little butterflies are pins, not a design element!

Also, I've been pondering this pile of color in my future craft room:

Those are paint chips--after painting a few samples...

I've settled on "Mexican Moonlight" for the bottom and "Glazed Pears" (on the left) for the sloped walls. Most of the bottom will be covered by furniture, so hopefully it won't interfere with my ability to think about colors in there. I do wonder if paint companies employ someone to come up with names for paint colors. I wish that was my job!

Where to put a design wall?

In the next few months, I'm going to be moving into my fiancĂ©'s house--which means that I get to redesign a sewing/craft/office room from scratch. I'm super-excited, and have been scoping out storage options at IKEA and reading up on organization ideas in a neat book I bought. The only problem is that it's a long, narrow room, and both the long sides have a sloped roof, which limits my wall storage space and will make it difficult to hang a design wall:

It used to be his "junk room." You can see he is still working on moving the junk. :)

We thought about maybe putting in a partial room divider flush with the closet next to the door--but that won't give me any space to step back from the wall, which is the whole point of it.

Does anyone have any suggestions, about the design wall specifially, or how to deal with sloped walls in general? I'm thinking of painting the top part with magnetic paint, if I can find it, to at least allow me to use that space to some degree.
