Sunday Stash Report

Still not much inspiration, but I got a drunkard's path template recently and started cutting up some batik scraps. It will take a lot more scraps before this is anywhere close to a quilt, though!

Also coming soon, pictures of the furniture that is now in my craft room (well, just as soon as we finish assembling it...)!

Sunday Stash Report

Fat quarter bundles were on sale last week at Joann's, and I couldn't help myself.

These two are so pretty together!

And these bird prints were just too cute to resist.
Out went 2 1/4 yards for my new purse; other than that I've been unsuccessfully attempting to test out my new hot fix crystal applicator on tulle and working on some other non-fabric related wedding stuff. I'm not feeling terribly fabric-inspired at the moment, so I might have to spend some time flipping through my books!

I'm back/Stash Report

Sorry for my silence; for various reasons I haven't been doing much sewing the last few weeks--but the last few days have been productive!

I've made a pillowcase for my fiance, who loves blueberries...

This pillowcase was super easy and used exactly a yard of fabric with only some selvedges left over--I think I might have to make some for myself, too!

I got a new, big, acrylic table that fits the free arm on my sewing machine perfectly, and as a result quilted an entire quilt yesterday. I'd really recommend getting one of these--I think they're available for many if not most machines--as I thought my quilting turned out unusually well! Here's a sneak peek.

Fabrics newly acquired include these Kaffe Fassett fabrics intended for a purse (I'm just waiting for next week's interfacing sale at Joann's!):

And these pretty batiks, which are mostly from Stonemountain and Daughter, an amazing fabric shop in Berkeley, CA.

I'll leave you with a picture of another piece of artwork I made this week--it's worked in metal, and I'm calling it "Thank God I Didn't Break My Sewing Machine."

Sunday Stash Report

I finally got backing for my octopus quilt, and have put it together and pinned it--so I've counted it both in and out this week. Now I just have to figure out how to quilt it. I had a great idea involving little octopi, but am not yet convinced that I'll be able to pull it off! I also unfortunately succumbed to some half-price batiks. Doesn't the top one look like space rocks?

Sunday Stash Report

I took my first quilt class this weekend, so I used up a bit of fabric! I'll post more details soon, but here's what I've created so far for my first thread painted landscape:

Those little butterflies are pins, not a design element!

Also, I've been pondering this pile of color in my future craft room:

Those are paint chips--after painting a few samples...

I've settled on "Mexican Moonlight" for the bottom and "Glazed Pears" (on the left) for the sloped walls. Most of the bottom will be covered by furniture, so hopefully it won't interfere with my ability to think about colors in there. I do wonder if paint companies employ someone to come up with names for paint colors. I wish that was my job!

Sunday Stash Report

It's not been a good week so I haven't gotten any sewing done this week--but I did finally get the binding done on that rainbow pinwheel quilt last week, so I can show you a finish so that this post is less boring:

And here are a couple of closeups.

I ordered some cotton knit the week before to make some more skirts, and my order arrived this week. Somehow, a half yard of quilting fabric found its way in.

Sunday Stash Report

In this week: 3 1/8 yards, basic black and white-on-white that wouldn't make for very interesting pictures!

My "out," unfortunately, doesn't add up to any meaningful yardage, but I am pleased with this little mug rug that I whipped up last night for a dear friend who is far away and sick. Hopefully she is resting and not reading my blog! :)

Sunday Stash Report

Nothing in this week, and I'm counting as out all of the Quilter's Tweed I bought last week. The columns are sewn (hopefully in the correct order--I think I was careful!); I'm hoping to finish the quilt top today--stay tuned for pictures!

Sunday Stash Report

I just used up fabric for binding on the one-patch quilt this week. I'd show you the quilt but it's actually not completely quilted yet. It's true, sometimes I bind before finishing the quilting, usually when there's a small area which I can't decide how to quilt. In this case I know how to quilt the remaining area but I was going on a long car ride and wanted to work on the binding.

I won't be getting a chance to do much sewing for next three weeks or so, but I'll show you some quilts that are already finished!

Sunday Stash Report

I haven't done much sewing this week, either, but lots of fabric in! At this rate, reducing my stash isn't going to happen this year.

A dear, longtime friend is in town visiting with both me and her sister this weekend, and she decided to clean out her fabric drawer/have fun picking some new fabrics at her favorite hometown fabric shop. All in all, she brought me about nine yards of scraps and yardage!!!

THANK YOU REBECCA!!! :)

For no apparent reason other than "we felt like it," another friend and I also went to the quilt shop here, which of course always results in at least a few bolt ends/clearance fabrics.

At least I have an idea for that purple/pink batik already...

I did finish the paper-pieced strips for my fabric basket swap, so putting the rest of it together should go relatively quickly from here.

I didn't use much fabric this week, other than my start on the quilted fabric basket. But, I also didn't buy anything, so I'm making progress!

Sunday Stash Report

I haven't used an inch of fabric this week, I'm afraid, although I did manage to finish one of the fingerless gloves I've been knitting:

I have an excuse, though--I've been here all week:

Yes, it really was that color. I never understood the "ultramarine blue" in my watercolor sets until this week.

Yup, I've been on a cruise! The kind of cruise where you are awake and filtering water at 3 a.m., that is. It was awesome, though. Here was our boat:

There are a few more pictures after the jump for anyone who is interested in what an oceanographic research cruise is like!

Sunday Stash Report

Oops, I missed last week's stash report! I bought fabric these past two weeks, but I promise all of it has a purpose!

The black will be backing for the one patch quilt. Sadly, the black I used on the front was nowhere to be found in the shop. The pink batik will be for the dogwood quilt, which I'm still planning on making. I'm participating in a quilted fabric basket swap, and according to my partner's information, blue is her favorite color, and I thought that fat quarter would be rather a pretty one to use.

This didn't use any fabric, only thread, but I did finish quilting the pinwheels this week, so I'm ready to use up some fabric for binding! Here's the back of it, since you can't really see the quilting in the picture I took from the front!

The fabric I used up this week was for the soft-sided portfolio, but I haven't made more progress than what I last showed you. Sadly, I won't get anything done this week due to work--but after that I've got some challenge and swap deadlines to meet, so I'll be making some progress!

Sunday Stash Report (Definitely My Fault!)

The local quilt shop sent out an email on Thursday about new batiks, and since I was still looking for another pink for the dogwood quilt I have planned, I had to go. Plus, I needed quilting thread for the three quilt tops that are either done or very, very close.

I found the threads I needed!

I also found fabric I didn't need!

Did you notice that none of these batiks are pink?

These were in the clearance bin. Don't they go great together? What sort of quilt will I make with three fat quarters? Don't ask me. I just buy fabric.

I did use some fabric, though. 1 1/2 yards for borders on the one patch quilt. And 1 yard for backing of the rainbow pinwheels. I'm going to quilt it with the black and white variegated thread I bought.

Yes, I ripped out vast amounts to add the orange I had forgotten.

Sunday Stash Report (Not My Fault!)

I didn't fall off the wagon this week. No sirree. I bought 2 yards of fabric for the background for my one patch quilt so I can finish that top off, and that was it. The other 7 3/4 yards into my stash this week were brought back from a business trip by someone who clearly loves me very much. All together now: awww!

Aren't these gradients gorgeous?

I might back the octopus quilt with one of these.

This is a seriously awesome batik.

I have been sewing this week, but not much fabric out and I'm not quite ready to show you the results yet. Soon, though, I'll be ready to actually finish some quilts!

Sunday Stash Report

In this week, 3 yards of Kona White for the quilt I posted last week. I also dropped by the local quilt shop to try and find another pink to go with the one I already have. I didn't find any, but I did find one of the owners who gave me a half hour lesson on squaring quilt blocks and getting sashing and borders straight. As soon as I got home I put my new understanding of getting stuff straight to use adding the borders to my octopus quilt.

Like you can see that they're straight in this picture. Ha!

I've been sewing stuff I cut up and counted last week, so nothing out this week. Nothing in, either--but I just came up with a new quilt idea, and I don't have the right fabric for it so I'll probably have to go out and get some soon:

Sunday Stash Report

Well, I promised you a terrible week in terms of my recovery from fabric-buying addiction, and I'm here to tell you that I didn't disappoint.

You see, Schoolhouse Quilts was there selling fabric for $6 a yard... including batiks... and I turn into a gibbering heap with no control over my wallet when batiks are involved!

Plus, assorted bolt ends and half yard cuts from a few other vendors...

That's all the fabric, but I got this sweet pincushion from Anita Heady Fiber Arts:

Finally, something other than a tomato pincushion! I just love it.

I also picked up a Lil' Twister tool, which I was excited to find after having seen this tutorial, and I immediately started cutting fabric, since this finally is a good use for a cute fat quarter stack I've had sitting around for quite a while.

In other news this week, I also put together the bulk of my octopus quilt top.

Why does this look lopsided? This better be the camera angle...
I'm still thinking about the border. I was originally going to add just a narrow turquoise border, but I'm now thinking about a wider turquoise with a darker orange or maybe a yellow line in it.

Sunday Stash Report

I was so good for the last few weeks, and it's all gone to pot. I know next week won't be pretty either, since the Cotton Patch Quilt Show starts on Friday and there is a special member preview party and sale the night before. I'm very excited about it--the quilts should all be judged by now and I can't wait to see how mine did! Check back next week; I'll be sure to take lots of pictures of all the quilts.

I used 1.375 yards for the baby quilt top this week.

In this week were some fabrics I need for quilts that are in the works, plus some fabrics that I totally didn't need but that somehow came home with me anyway:

Some Flora&Fauna fat quarters. I think these go nicely together even though they're different colorways, and I've already got a quilt idea to showcase them.

Some brown batiks to make cubes to go with the one-patch wonder I'm working on:

And some assorted fabrics, including more turquoise so I can finally start my octopus quilt, a yummy yard from Dragonfly, and some shell fabric from my mom.

Oh gosh, how did my hand end up in that picture? That sparkly thing is not fabric, and besides, it should have been in last week's stash report!
