Hydrothermal Vent Worm Plushie

I'm afraid I don't have a particularly good picture of this project, but I made this plush hydrothermal vent worm for a fellow marine scientist as a graduation gift several years ago.

I already talked about hydrothermal vent worms here. Or you could just read Wikipedia.

The pattern is my own. I wish I could find it again, because I keep thinking I should make them to sell on Etsy or something like that. Fortunately, these guys have a pretty simple shape!

Sunday Stash Report

I just used up fabric for binding on the one-patch quilt this week. I'd show you the quilt but it's actually not completely quilted yet. It's true, sometimes I bind before finishing the quilting, usually when there's a small area which I can't decide how to quilt. In this case I know how to quilt the remaining area but I was going on a long car ride and wanted to work on the binding.

I won't be getting a chance to do much sewing for next three weeks or so, but I'll show you some quilts that are already finished!

I got a basket!

I came home from a work-related trip today (purpose of trip: the gnats needed to be fed) to find an awesome quilted fabric basket from the swap I was a part of in my mailbox. My quilting fairy, Pat, picked marine-scientist-y colors and fabrics for me:

Batiks! My favorite!

There is some beautiful decorative stitching on the top edge and the handles, and the quilting on the accent fabric really complements it:

There were also some extra goodies inside--a few fat quarters and a little coin purse matching the fabric basket.

The coin purse has a neat spring top that's very cool and the likes of which I'd never seen before.

Thank you so much, Pat! I love it all, and the basket is definitely going somewhere prominent in my sewing room--I'm thinking it would be a great place to keep my favorite fabrics.

This was my first swap, and was a really fun experience. If you haven't tried it, I'd definitely recommend it!

Sunday Stash Report

No fabric purchased this week, but I actually used a bunch!

3/4 yard for the quilted fabric basket

2 1/2 yards for backing for my one patch wonder, which hopefully will get quilted soon...

Quilted Fabric Basket

I finished the quilted fabric basket for the swap I am participating in! I just need to add in a little label and then it will be ready to head off to its new home.

We followed this tutorial to make them, although I made different center patterned strips because I felt like paper piecing them.

I'm excited to see what sort of fabric basket I'll get!

Sunday Stash Report

I haven't done much sewing this week, either, but lots of fabric in! At this rate, reducing my stash isn't going to happen this year.

A dear, longtime friend is in town visiting with both me and her sister this weekend, and she decided to clean out her fabric drawer/have fun picking some new fabrics at her favorite hometown fabric shop. All in all, she brought me about nine yards of scraps and yardage!!!

THANK YOU REBECCA!!! :)

For no apparent reason other than "we felt like it," another friend and I also went to the quilt shop here, which of course always results in at least a few bolt ends/clearance fabrics.

At least I have an idea for that purple/pink batik already...

I did finish the paper-pieced strips for my fabric basket swap, so putting the rest of it together should go relatively quickly from here.

Sunday Stash Report

I didn't use much fabric this week, other than my start on the quilted fabric basket. But, I also didn't buy anything, so I'm making progress!
